Andrew Garfield is the founder and principal. He is an experienced corporate communications consultant and strategist with more than 20 years’ experience of operating in high-profile and reputationally critical situations.
Since founding Garfield Advisory in 2016, he has acted for over 20 UK and international clients on both a retained and project basis. Mandates include M&A, restructuring, crisis, and capital raising for globally active firms, as well as profile raising for investors, start up and scale ups. GAL has the capability to operate in multiple languages, and has partnerships with like-minded firms and individuals offering coverage in key centres in the US, Asia, and Continental Europe.
Previously, a partner for more than 15 years in the financial institutions group of Brunswick Group LLP, he has acted for leading global companies and organisations including Allianz, ANZ, Association of Financial Markets in Europe (AFME), Barclays, Bertelsmann, BNP Paribas, Dexia, Dubai Stock Exchange, GDF Suez, HKex, Interros, NYSE Euronext, Access Industries, HSBC, Israel Corporation, JPower, Mitsui Sumitomo, Moscow Stock Exchange, Munich Re, Quantum Pacific Group, RSA, Renaissance Capital, Sabadell, Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA), SGX – Singapore Stock Exchange Standard Life, The Clearing House, Ubisoft, Unicredit, Unilever, Vivendi, West Deutsche Landesbank, Zurich Financial Services and VTB.
Past mandates have included strategic communications advice and advocacy in high profile and reputationally critical situations including large scale M&A transactions, initial public offerings, crises including 2007-8 banking crises and their aftermath, litigation, investigations, shareholder activism, leadership change, NGO campaigns, as well as “steady state” issues management, profile raising and reputational programmes.
He became a communications consultant in 2001, after a successful career as a business and economics journalist covering financial services, Brussels affairs, and European business. Among stories he covered where the creation of the European Single Market, the ERM crisis, the collapse of Barings, the economic transformation of the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe following the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany. He graduated from Oxford University with an MA in Russian and French.
